The Institute for Global Negotiation (IGN) strengthens negotiation capacity in international affairs through research, training, and advisory services. We work with diplomats, public officials, and civil society actors, primarily across Europe and globally, to support effective, principled negotiation on today’s most pressing challenges—from peacebuilding to climate diplomacy. Based in Zurich, we offer practitioner-focused workshops, strategic partnerships, and applied research that bridge academic insight and real-world application.

The Global Negotiation Conference (GNC) stands at the forefront of international negotiation, fostering cross-cultural understanding and innovative problem-solving. Since 2014, the Conference has developed into one of the world’s leading opportunities for graduate students to deepen their understanding of negotiation and conflict resolution. Every year, up to 30 exceptional students and graduates immerse in the art of negotiation-based conflict resolution. Over five intensive days, participants engage with leading experts in international law, diplomacy, science, and business through interactive workshops on leadership and negotiation, peace mediation, negotiation engineering, cultural aspects of negotiation, digital diplomacy, and negotiation strategy and planning. These sessions culminate in a negotiation simulation addressing urgent global issues, transforming theoretical knowledge into practical skills. By bridging diverse perspectives and interests, the GNC serves as a catalyst for developing transformative solutions to complex international challenges. In 2024, this was the topic of “Emerging Technologies”, which was discussed at the United Nations General Assembly that year. In 2025, we are working on the topic of “Deep Sea Mining”, which was hotly debated at COP 2024.
