1. Goals

   At Kiota Social Innovation Center (KiotaSIC) we are committed to innovating smart clean energy products and services that improve lives on a global scale. Using a market-based approach, KiotaSIC will continue developing clean energy products. Our strategy is to develop and deploy clean energy alternatives in the bottom of the pyramid households while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities. Our strategy is to serve more than 15 million people in energy poverty in the next 10 years. KiotaSIC’s clean energy products reduce climate change, create new jobs, and enable families to save money. We are very keen on productive use of renewable energy to increase productivity, strengthen local businesses, create jobs, expand economic opportunities, and spur long-term development in rural communities.

3. Measures

   We achieve our impact by bolstering the shift to clean energy access by range of products which include, clean cookstoves, solar powered lanterns and induction cookstove, which provide access to safe cleaner and more sustainable alternative to cooking and lighting in Kenya. The technology aligns with global efforts to combat climate change and create jobs. 1. Quality of life – improvement in quality of life because of our efficient clean cookstove. 2. Safety – feeling of safety at their homes or at their businesses. 3. Health benefits – Their own and family health. Improvements in respiratory function, general physical well-being, and hygiene. 4. Cooking time – Decrease in time spent on cooking each day since they started using clean stoves. 5. Fuel spending – decrease in weekly/monthly fuel spending. 6. Productive use – What are they using the cookstove for, domestic use or in a place of business. 7. We shall also monitor cookstove aging, and how that affects emissions reduction. At a point where we determine there is significant impairment of cookstove part, we shall replace the worn-out part. Specifically, we have made our grates to be replaceable. 8. Customer experience – if any challenges experienced, will help us to improve the product.
