Goal
The Emergency Action Fund (EAF) reduces cost of emergency response by building local preparedeness with at risk communities, intervene with women-led localised relief actions during emergencies and protect women and girls throughout.
-
Challenge
93% of deaths from disasters occurr in developing countries, among the poorest. Women are 14 x more likely to die in a disaster, are at higher risk of harm and violence and are not consulted in preparing and implementing responses.
-
Need for Action
ActionAid's Emergency Fund does not prevent disasters from happening but will ensure that communities most affected are equipped and empowered to lead effective response.
-
Measures
Through the EAF help: 1) build women-led disaster preparedness and livelihood options in countries at risk 2) support immediate actions through women-led relief distribution 3) address women security concerns and protection needs in emergencies
-
Cooperation Partner
ActionAid works in 40 countries through local presence and partnerships it has built over decades.
-
Impact
In the course of 2020 we managed to reach 8.5 million people accross 37 countries with emergency relief, preventive and protective actions for women. The fund allowed us to leverage other funding, after our intervention kicked off.

Special Quality of the Project; Suitability of the Organization
ActionAid is internationally well known but intervenes only where it has established long term relations with communities and partners. Its engagement for localised action and women led-response is well known and documented.
