Project Duration January 1, 2025 - December 31, 2025

Sow Seeds of Hope and help Sustain Life in Rural Kenya

  1. Goal
Creats International enhances the capacities of our communities to find homegrown solutions to their challenges and link them to critical resources like seeds, fertilizer, small farm machinery, and credit services to productive members of the society. Consequently, we anticipate the project will provide local communities with the tools and resources to advocate for their rights, leverage their indigenous knowledge with a blend of science to take action for climate action, and build resilient lives and livelihoods.
  2. Challenge
The land, once fertile and abundant, now betrays its people. The effects of climate change are starkly evident. The rains, once predictable, now come in destructive torrents or fail to come at all. Crops wither in the fields, and the soil, exhausted from years of overuse, yields little. The rural communities, who rely almost entirely on agriculture, face food insecurity and hunger. Their children, eyes dull with malnutrition, are unable to concentrate in school, if they attend at all. Perhaps the most heart-wrenching challenge of all is hunger. In a region blessed with fertile land, it is a cruel irony that so many families go to bed hungry. Erratic rainfall, poor farming techniques, and a lack of access to quality seeds and fertilizers have led to poor harvests year after year. The once-promising maize fields now yield little, and families that once depended on their crops for both food and income are left with empty granaries and empty stomachs.
  3. Need for Action
The challenges are immense, and we cannot tackle them alone. We need your support. Whether it’s through donations, partnerships, or simply spreading the word, every action counts. The people of Homa Bay are not asking for handouts—they are asking for a chance. A chance to build a better future for themselves and their children. As you read this, I urge you to think about the lives behind these words. The mother who dreams of sending her child to school. The farmer who prays for rain that will bring life to his crops. The young girl who wants to be a leader but lacks the opportunity. These are not just stories; they are realities. Join us in making a difference. Together, we can turn the tide in Homa Bay, transforming hardship into hope, and challenges into opportunities. The heartbeat of Homa Bay is strong, and with your help, it will continue to beat with resilience, determination, and hope.
  4. Measures
Creats International, a beacon of change, is deeply embedded in the fabric of these communities. Our work is not just about providing aid; it’s about empowering people to take control of their futures. Through our agricultural extension services, we are teaching farmers modern, sustainable farming practices. We provide them with high-quality hybrid seeds and organic fertilizers, helping them increase their yields and diversify their crops. Our training programs focus on building knowledge, not dependency, ensuring that farmers can continue to thrive long after our work is done. We understand that true change begins with women. That’s why we are committed to gender equality, providing women with the resources and training they need to become leaders in their communities. By forming women’s groups and supporting female entrepreneurs, we are breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for all.

  6. Impact
The project has proven highly effective in achieving its intended goals of empowering rural women through entrepreneurship. In Rachuonyo South, we successfully identified, recruited, and supported a significant number of women across multiple villages, equipping them with essential business skills through targeted training sessions. As a result, many of the participants have either started or expanded their small businesses, leading to a measurable increase in household income and improved livelihoods. Feedback from beneficiaries indicates enhanced confidence, financial independence, and active participation in community development. Pre- and post-training assessments reveal significant improvement in business management knowledge, while partnerships with local financial institutions and mentorship linkages have enabled women to access credit, markets, and ongoing support. The project’s sustainability is evident in the peer mentorship model, where trained women are now mentoring others
  7. Special Quality of the Project; Suitability of the Organization
Creats International fosters sustainable, inclusive, and thriving communities where no one is left behind by dismantling the social, cultural, and economic barriers holding marginalized groups, especially women and youth from thriving. As the famous Chinese quote says, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” Our theory of change is anchored on building the capacities of farmers, extension agents, and communities to innovate and solve their problems. We build the capacities of communities to innovate and find homegrown solutions to wicked problems like food insecurity, gender inequality, hunger, poverty, and the impacts of climate change. We link the community to resources like agricultural inputs, drought-tolerant hybrid seeds, credits, and markets through gender-specific, culturally appropriate, and evidence-based approaches through a relationship-based approach anchored on mutual respect.
