Music, dance and theatre programs can establish a sense of normalcy amid displacement, creating structure in the lives of displaced youth and helping refugees rebuild their lives and find joy.

Challenge
Using music, dance and arts platforms, the project aims to improve the wellbeing and mental health of traumatized refugees, help refugees recover from trauma, enable them to regain control on their own life and actively contribute to their community.

Music, dance, and theatre have the uplifting and transformative power to create joy and inspire self-confidence, especially for youth residing in refugee camps and settlements around the world.

Measures
In 2021, UNHCR plans to launch a pilot music and dance program in Niger in partnership with NGO ACDD-Forge Arts to help refugees in the Sahel – some of the world’s most vulnerable people – recover from trauma and integrate into their host communities

Impact
These activities will help refugees learn to cope with trauma, express their feelings in a protective and creative environment, and develop their artistic talents. These projects will serve to improve relations between refugees and host community.
