Project Duration February 1, 2020 - December 31, 2023

Fight gender-based violence in Jordan

  1. Goal
Improve psycho-social well being and increase access to safe and sustainable livelihoods for 500 women and girls from Syrian refugees’ and hosting communities
  2. Challenge
The protracted refugees crises in Jordan has heightened gender-based violence experienced by Jordanian and Syrian women and girls. Women are often socially and economically isolated and cases go unreported.
  3. Need for Action
Violence against women and girls holds them back from working, from socialising, from learning, and from living with freedom and dignity.
  4. Measures
The project will reach out to women through community-based organisations, providing professional PSS support, and creating sustainable livelihoods opportunities in small scale agriculture projects and in non-traditional employment sectors.
  5. Cooperation Partner
ActionAid will work through its office in Jordan and with its local partner Arab Women Organization of Jordan (AWO).
  6. Impact
The project aims to create long-lasting solutions for the 500 women and girls involved, so that they are more confident, less isolated, more likely to attend higher education and make use of employment opportunities
  7. Special Quality of the Project; Suitability of the Organization
Action against gender based violence is at the core of ActionAid strategy worldwide and is part of activities in Jordan since 2005. Empowering people to lead in their own struggle to address injustice is core to AA's signature approach.
