End to Child Marriage

  1. Goal
    - To provide education to at least 100 girls every year and ensure they complete their education. - To provide regular training to at least 1000 local community members. - To reduce rates of child marriage and violence in the region.
  2. Challenge
Did you know that 1 in 2 girls in Province 2 in Nepal gets married when she is still a child? We work in that area - most populous province, with the highest level of violence against girls and women, only 8 in 10 women completing secondary education
  3. Need for Action
Child marriage and domestic violence are the biggest issues that the girls we are working with are experiencing. Most are from the Dalit (untouchable) castes and are discriminated against. Education prevents child marriage. We had to act quickly.
  4. Measures
8 months of transition classes and enrolment into regular school or vocational training; extra tuition daily classes; training and workshops for the local community members, schools, police, authorities, social workers on child marriage and violence
  5. Cooperation Partner
We deliver our projects through our local branch - Our Sansar Nepal. We work closely with the schools, female community health volunteers, police, local social workers, children's and women authorities.
  6. Impact
    - Min 100 girls a year receive and complete education, vocational training - reduction in levels of child marriage - Changed attitudes of communities towards child marriage and violence - Girls rights recognised and opportunities for bright futures
  7. Special Quality of the Project; Suitability of the Organization
We are the only organisation in the area that focuses on underage girls. We have 15 years of experience working there and our EmpowerHER and End to Child Labour programmes have been a great success. We are using our tested models to run this project.
