EcoJusta

  1. Goal
EcoJusta programme empowers Ecuadorian communities to confront gender-based violence through sustainable education, psychosocial support, and public health learning. In partnership with leading international and local NGOs, your donation helps build safer, stronger futures for women and girls in Ecuador.
  2. Challenge
Approximately 70% of women have experienced Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Ecuador. GBV has a devastating impact on communities and may lead to a range of subsequent illnesses impacting social structures, for example anxiety, depression, thoughts of suicide, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, among others. Coupled with historic and recent armed conflicts in both countries and decades of internal displacement, together with recent energy crises will further exacerbate community isolation11 and challenge the exchange and mental resilience of communities. Therefore, addressing behavioral changes through building mental resilience of survivors and those naturalized to domestic abuse, whilst empowering community-led learning is critical to foster individual healing and building an overall community resilience against GBV. This topic is of critical importance requiring immediate global attention. (Literature references available on demand).
  3. Need for Action
Delivering public health knowledge to local communities in Ecuador is essential to tackle gender-based violence (GBV), a widespread issue affecting mostly women and girls. According to ENVIGMU 2019, 65% of Ecuadorian women have faced some form of violence—56.9% psychological, 35.4% physical, and 32.7% sexual. These numbers show the urgent need for public health interventions focused on prevention, access to care, and training community personnel in evidence-based approaches.
